Building Wescapades: How Consistency is Driving YouTube Growth

There’s something pretty satisfying about watching a YouTube channel grow from the ground up, especially when you’ve had a front row seat to it. That’s exactly what we’ve had with Jake Swindells and his channel Wescapades, which has recently passed the 500-subscriber mark… and honestly, it couldn’t be more deserved.

We’ve been working with Jake for the past six months, helping edit his self-shot footage, and it’s been great to see how his content has evolved in that time. His focus has mainly been on deer stalking and fishing, proper, authentic outdoor content that resonates with the kind of audience who actually live and breathe that lifestyle.

One thing we always say to clients (and it’s just as true here) is that YouTube success doesn’t happen overnight. There’s no magic switch. It’s about consistency, patience, and just sticking with it, even when the numbers feel slow at the start. Jake’s been putting out videos every couple of weeks, and you can see that steady growth beginning to build. Views are climbing, engagement is improving, and most importantly, people are coming back for more.

Hitting 500 subscribers is a solid milestone, but it’s also just the beginning. Jake’s first big target is 1,000 subscribers, and he’s already halfway there. With the trajectory he’s on, there’s no doubt he’ll get there, it’s just a case of keeping that momentum going.

From our side at GD Media, it’s been a great example of how consistent content creation, paired with solid editing and storytelling, can start to build something meaningful. Whether you’re filming on a high-end setup or just capturing moments yourself, the key is getting it out there and learning as you go.

So, if you haven’t already, go and give Jake a follow and hit that subscribe button. Supporting creators at this stage genuinely makes a difference, and you’ll be able to say you were there early doors when the channel really takes off.
And if you’re thinking about starting your own YouTube journey or improving your content, that’s exactly what we do. We’re GD Media – photographers, videographers and content creators based in Somerset, working across Devon and the wider South-West of the UK—helping people turn ideas into something worth watching.

Let’s get to work

Tell us what you need filming.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
