Naval Children’s Charity at the Royal Albert Hall.

Naval Children’s Charity at the Royal Albert Hall.

Earlier this year, we had the privilege of working with Naval Children’s Charity (NCC) to produce a short film that highlights the incredible work they do supporting children of serving and veteran personnel in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. The NCC quietly makes a huge difference behind the scenes – supporting families through deployments, transitions, and some really challenging times.

From the outset, we knew this wasn’t just another video. This had to land emotionally. It had to tell real stories. And most importantly, it had to do justice to the people and families it represents.

One of the standout moments for us during production was recording the voiceover with their patron, Kristin Scott Thomas. Now, we’ve worked in some interesting places before… but being invited into her home to record was something else entirely. No big studio, no over-the-top setup—just a really focused, professional session capturing a voice that brings instant gravitas to the film.

And honestly, this is where a lot of people underestimate the power of audio. You can have the most beautiful visuals in the world, but if the sound isn’t right, it just doesn’t connect in the same way. Kristin’s delivery gave the whole film a level of depth and emotion that elevated everything we’d captured visually.

The premiere took place at the Mountbatten Festival of Music, held at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. If you’ve never heard of it, the festival is an annual showcase of the Royal Marines Band Service. We were lucky enough to be invited along, which meant we got to sit in the audience and watch the film play out on the big screen for the very first time.

You’ve spent weeks (or months) working on something, and suddenly you’re watching it with a full house, waiting to see how it lands. But seeing the reaction… the silence in the right moments, the emotional connection, the applause, it made everything worth it.

As a veteran-owned business, projects like this mean a lot to us. There’s a personal connection there, and a genuine desire to support organisations that are doing good work within the armed forces community. But more than that, we strongly believe that charities like NCC should be using high-quality media more than ever. Because if people don’t see it, they don’t feel it. And if they don’t feel it, they don’t act. That’s where film, photography, and storytelling come in.

This project is a great example of how powerful visual content can be when it’s done right, helping charities raise awareness, connect with audiences, and ultimately extend their reach and impact.

Another great project for us at GD Media, and one we’re incredibly proud of.

Let’s get to work

Tell us what you need filming.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
