GD Media recently photographed a set of headshots and promo shots for TV presenter and tech speaker Jason Bradbury at a small independent theatre in Newquay, Cornwall.
Most people will know Jason as the long-running host of Channel 5’s The Gadget Show. His TV career spans more than twenty years, and he started out in stand-up comedy alongside David Walliams. These days he’s one of the UK’s most sought-after keynote speakers, talking to audiences for brands like Vodafone, Samsung and Intel about AI and the technology shaping the next decade. He also creates his own video and photo content for social media, so he knows exactly what good imagery looks like.
That meant the promo photography needed to work hard, whether it ends up on his website, on event posters or alongside his speaker profile.
The theatre was a brilliant choice of location. It gave us amazing backgrounds and a real sense of atmosphere, from the stage and seating to the warm, moody corners you just don’t get in a studio. For someone who spends his working life on stage, it felt like a natural fit.
With any headshot or promo shoot, the most important thing is capturing the person, not just a picture of them. Jason is full of energy and humour, and we wanted that to come through in every frame. That means taking the time to chat, letting him relax, and catching the natural expressions in between the posed shots. Those are often the ones that end up being the favourites.
Lighting is just as important. In a theatre, you’re working with dark spaces and a mix of light sources, so we brought our own lighting to shape Jason’s face properly while still keeping the mood of the room. Good lighting is what separates a professional headshot from a quick snap on a phone, and it’s what makes the image look polished at any size.
It was a great day, and Jason was a pleasure to work with.
