In September, we flew from the UK to Las Vegas to photograph and film the wedding of Harrison Millar and his bride-to-be, Jade. We’ve worked with Harrison before, so being asked to travel across the Atlantic for his wedding meant a lot to us.
Getting there took more planning than a normal wedding. All our camera bodies, lenses, batteries and memory cards had to come with us, and most of it went in our hand luggage so it stayed with us the whole way. We packed light on everything else and checked every bag twice, because once you’re in Nevada there’s no popping back to Taunton for a spare battery.
The ceremony was in a small chapel down by the Stratosphere. It was an intimate setting, which suited Harrison and Jade, and it meant we could work quietly and catch the moments that mattered without getting in anyone’s way.
After the ceremony we headed to the other end of the Strip for the group photo at the famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. There’s always a queue of people waiting for their turn, so we had to be organised. We got everyone in place quickly, took the shots and moved on before the next group stepped in.
From there it was back up the Strip to Fremont Street for the couple’s wedding photos. Fremont Street is loud, bright and busy, with crowds, music and the light canopy overhead. It’s not a place you can control, so we worked with it, using the energy of the street as the backdrop and finding gaps in the crowd for the shots we needed.
Moving between both ends of the Strip in one day meant keeping a close eye on timings, travel and light. Our kit had to be ready at every stop, and we kept the day moving so Harrison and Jade could enjoy it rather than wait around for us.
It was a long day and a very different shoot from the ones we usually do in Somerset, Devon and the South West, but it was one we’ll remember. Congratulations to Harrison and Jade, and thank you for having us there.
If you’re planning a wedding at home or abroad and want photography and videography from a team that’s happy to travel, get in touch. We’d love to hear about it.
