Restaurant on the river

The Yofi

Ye Old Ferrie Inn's riverside terrace lit with festoon lights at dusk, wooded hills behind

Ye Old Ferrie Inn sits on the banks of the River Wye at Symonds Yat, a riverside pub known for relaxed food, local ales and its famous smash burgers. They asked us to photograph their menu so the food looks as good online and on the menu as it does when it reaches the table.

As a Somerset-based photography and videography company, we work with pubs, restaurants and hospitality businesses across the South West and further afield.

  1. The Objective

    The goal was twofold:

Menu – To create professional photos of the dishes for their menus, website and social media. Signature Dishes – To show off the smash burgers that people travel to the pub for.

  2. Our Approach

Before the shoot, we went through the menu with the team and agreed which dishes mattered most. The burgers were the priority, including the Coppett and the YOFI with its two smashed Herefordshire beef patties. We planned to photograph each dish fresh from the kitchen, so the food was hot and looked the way customers see it.

  3. Execution

Hero shots of the smash burgers, showing the crispy edges, melted cheese and toppings. Photos of the wider menu, from loaded fries to sharing boards and pizzas. Close-up detail shots for social media. Shots taken with the pub’s setting in mind, so the photos feel like Ye Old Ferrie Inn.

In post-production, we kept the colours natural and warm, so the food looks appetising without looking over-styled.

  4. The Outcome

Ye Old Ferrie Inn now has a library of menu photos ready for use across:

Their website and online menus. Social media posts and promotions. Printed menus and signage.

  5. Key Takeaway

Lead with what you’re known for – a signature dish deserves its own hero shot. Shoot it fresh – food photographed straight from the kitchen looks real and appetising. Good photos sell food – people decide what to order, and where to eat, with their eyes.

At GD Media, we believe great food deserves great photography. If you run a pub, restaurant or café and want your menu to look its best, we’d love to hear from you.

Let’s get to work

Tell us what you need filming.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
