Real families, powerful stories. Our film for the Naval Children’s Charity brought children’s experiences of military life to the screen, premiering at the Royal Albert Hall.
At GD Media, we’re proud to tell stories that matter. The Naval Children’s Charity commissioned us to produce a short film exploring the experiences of children whose parents serve in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. The film premiered at the Royal Albert Hall during the Mountbatten Festival of Music in March 2025.
Through interviews with families supported by the charity, we captured honest accounts of military family life. Combined with archive footage, their stories reveal the challenges, resilience and everyday experiences behind the uniform.
Military service affects the whole family. For children, long deployments, frequent moves and disrupted education can bring uncertainty, alongside the emotional strain of having a parent serving far from home. The message running through the film is simple: children serve too.
The Naval Children’s Charity helps families navigate these pressures through financial assistance, educational support, wellbeing programmes and emotional care. Hearing directly from those who have benefited allowed us to show the difference that support makes, and the reassurance of knowing help is available.
For our team, this project brought together what we value most about filmmaking: listening carefully, building trust and creating space for people to share their experiences in their own words.
Its Royal Albert Hall premiere gave these families’ stories a powerful platform, reminding audiences that behind the music, uniforms and ceremony are children carrying their own share of service. We’re honoured to have helped bring their voices to the screen.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
