Website design and build for an event photographer

3DOG Media photographs and films CrossFit and HYROX events across the South West. The business needed a website that put the photography first, made booking easy and kept all contact going through forms on the site. We designed and built it, and it went live in October 2026.

As a Somerset-based video and photography company, we know how much a website matters to people who make a living from their pictures. We built this one so the photography does most of the talking.

  1. The Objective

The client wanted a portfolio and booking website with a dark, rugged look that matched the feel of the events they shoot. The brief covered three things:

Portfolio: show the work properly, with roughly half the images in colour and half in high-contrast black and white. Booking: let people check availability and book a date without needing to call or email. Plain copy: keep the wording in the client’s own voice, first person and straightforward.

  2. Our Approach

We started with the photography. We edited around 200 images into an even mix of colour and black and white.

The homepage leads with the client’s own line, “Earned, not posed”.

The client also wanted no email address or phone number anywhere on the site, so every enquiry, booking and contract goes through a form.

We also made sure the client could update the site themselves. Content is edited through a simple content management system.

  3. Execution

The site went live on 8 October 2026, a day after the build started. Over the following weeks we added the features that make it work as a business tool:

Gallery tools: each photo can be switched to black and white, and framed and zoomed from the editor.

Location pages for Taunton, Exeter, Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and Yeovil, plus an FAQ page and search engine set-up.

Every change was reviewed and approved by the client before it went live.

  4. The Outcome

The client now has a fast, photo-led website that they can run themselves. It includes:

A portfolio of event photography and video. Online booking with automatic confirmations. Contracts that clients agree to online. Location pages to help people across the South West find the business.

See the live site at 3dogmedia.co.uk.

  5. Key Takeaway

A photographer’s website should be built around the pictures, and it should make booking as easy as possible. Getting the client’s own words onto the site early also made a difference, as the copy now sounds like the person you’d be booking.

If you’re a photographer, a gym or a small business and need a website that looks good and does the admin for you, get in touch.

Let’s get to work

Tell us what you need filming.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
