Trail riding on Exmoor

Trail Blazing

Dirt bike rider jumping over a bump on a forest trail

In October 2026, we spent the day on Exmoor with the Somerset group of the Trail Riders Fellowship (TRF) for their forest ride day. The TRF ride legal green lanes and byways on motorbikes, and look after them too.

As a Somerset-based video and photography company, we went to sharpen our skills and come away with good footage and photos we can use across the business.

  1. The Objective

We set ourselves a clear brief for the day. The goal was twofold:

Practice – Film and photograph fast-moving riders in changing light. Content – Come home with video and photos for our social media and website.

  2. Our Approach

Exmoor is a good place to test yourself. Within a few miles you go from open moorland to deep wooded valleys, and the light changes every time you turn a corner.

Trail bikes don’t slow down for the camera, so we picked our spots carefully. We chose bends, climbs and water crossings, where we knew the riders would be doing something worth filming.

  3. Execution

Settings adjusted on the move as riders came out of dark woodland into bright sun. Fast shutter speeds to freeze the mud and spray. Slower shutter speeds with panning to show speed. Fixed shots and tracking shots for video, following the riders through the landscape. Wide shots to show how remote the lanes are, and closer shots of the riders and their bikes.

  4. The Outcome

We came away with video and photos of the riders on Exmoor’s lanes, framed as part of the landscape. They’re ready for use across:

    Our social media. Our website.

  5. Key Takeaway

Read the light ahead of the riders – in patchy woodland you need to be ready before they reach you. Let the scenery do some of the work by showing the riders in the landscape, not just filling the frame with bikes.

Days like this keep us sharp, and the skills carry straight into our client work, whether that’s events, sport or anything fast-moving in tricky light. Thank you to the Somerset TRF for having us along. If you’re planning an event in Somerset, Devon or the South West, get in touch.

Let’s get to work

Tell us what you need filming.

Brand film, social content, an event, a drone shot you can’t get any other way — give us the brief and we’ll tell you straight how we’d shoot it and what it costs. We’re a small, experienced crew, not the cheapest option in the county, and the work shows it.
